The hard shoulder on the motorway is for emergencies.
It is not for Audi drivers who don't feel like waiting.
Alas the driver of this A5 convertible though he (or she) could avoid slow-moving traffic on the M621 by driving down the hard shoulder.
Fortunately, the Audi driver's actions didn't go unnoticed by traffic cops who promptly stopped the vehicle.
The driver now faces three penalty points and a £100 fine.
West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Unit tweeted: "Driver of this one decided they didn’t want to wait in slow-moving traffic like everyone else and decided to drive down the hard shoulder to exit the motorway. TOR (traffic offence report) issued with points and a fine likely to follow."
Stopping and driving on the hard shoulder is illegal for anything other than an emergency, or if directed to by police or traffic officers in uniform, or signs in the case of roadworks or an obstruction, or on a smart motorway if the hard shoulder has been opened to traffic.
Illegally using the hard shoulder can result in a £100 fine and three penalty points on your licence.
