Rising over Fifth Avenue on the rooftop of The Peninsula New York, Chalet de Ning is the chic new spot in Manhattan for après-ski-style tipples.

A ski trip to the Alps may not be in the cards this year, but you can still get in on the après-ski action at the new Chalet de Ning, a Swiss-themed, pop-up bar on the rooftop of the five-star Peninsula New York. The new hotspot can be found on the West Terrace of The Peninsula New York’s Salon de Ning Rooftop Bar, an all-year-round favorite haunt of locals and hotel guests alike.
With two heated domes decked out with cozy faux-fur trimmings and Nordic-inspired furnishings (including a working fireplace), it’s easy to feel transported. Plus, there’s a special menu of themed bites like fondue with fresh truffle and pumpkin-spiced chocolate fondue, and plenty of festive cocktails, such as the Walnut Fashion, with barrel-aged Cask & Crew walnut- and toffee-infused whiskey, muddled cherries, bitters and brown sugar. Madam Ning’s classic cocktails are also available. (Try the very tropical Ning Sling, with gin, lychee, passion fruit, crème de pèche and mint—should an imagined tropical escape be more appealing than an Alpine one.)

The Peninsula New York is filled with custom-design artwork and has a long-standing connection with the international art world. For example, last year, the hotel welcomed celebrated Dutch artist Peter Riezebos to work on the property as part of the brand’s Art in Resonance program, and his work is currently displayed off the lobby. For the Chalet de Ning rooftop pop-up, The Peninsula New York commissioned an artist to create custom postcards, which evoke vintage travel posters and the spirit of the golden age of travel. The retro-inspired postcards are available for guests to write and mail on-site, in the charming mailbox in the Chalet de Ning, with the hotel arranging postage for anywhere in the world.
The high style doesn’t stop on the rooftop. Outfitted in a palette of sophisticated neutrals and luxe textures with subtle Art Nouveau and Beaux-Arts accents, The Peninsula New York is a landmark property with an unbeatable Fifth Avenue address. The enclosed rooftop pool is also unmissable, as is breakfast at the elegant Clement, bedecked in marigold plaster walls portraying fantastical scenes of nearby Central Park.
