This Raiders fan's costume is a Force to be reckoned with

Conrad Farrell finds your lack of faith in the Raiders' finals chances disturbing.

The Conder resident is one of the most recognisable fans at home games, although you wouldn't know him if you saw him out of costume.

For the past four years, he's been giving Victor the Viking a run for his money in the mascot stakes, dressing up in full Star Wars get up as Darth Raider.

Mr Farrell said he started wearing the costume in 2016, and has been attending games in the costume at Canberra Stadium every chance he can get.

"I first wore it at the semi-final with Penrith at the home final in 2016, when the Raiders had that run of 10 wins in a row," he said.

"I was speaking to Tony Wood, also known as Viktor the Viking, at the last home game that season and said if we got a home final, I would wear it.

"The pun was a large chunk of the reason I wore the costume, but I've always had a bit of a love of Star Wars."

His dedication to making the costume is impressive. Most impressive.

The Darth Raider suit is now in its second iteration. Mr Farrell spent almost six hours painting a black store-bought costume green.

"The largest part was spent covering up the bits of the costume that you don't want painted," he said.

"It's all attached and it doesn't come off."

While the costume itself is a spectacle at games, attracting photos from fellow fans and even the players themselves, it does have its down sides.

"You're not able to see much out of the helmet, so you feel a bit like a racehorse with blinkers on," he said.

"I can't cheer too loudly, as the helmet echoes and creates a big echo chamber."

The Raiders fan chose the path to the Green side when he was just three years old and can still remember games being played at Seiffert Oval.

The upcoming preliminary final at home is set to be one of the biggest games for Raiders fans in recent years and said he would be willing to make the trip to Sydney should they reach the grand final.

If they go all the way and win the premiership, Mr Farrell said it would be a day long remembered.

"I'm at that point where I'm starting to dream," he said.

"[The Raiders] have been a bit more disciplined this year with their defence and they're more focused."

Dressing up as one of cinema's most famous fathers, Mr Farrell said he was looking at bringing his own children into getting into costume for big Raiders games.

"I'm looking at getting a Princess Leia costume for [my daughter] Willow," he said.

"It's been a long time since the Raiders have won a premiership, and my kids have never seen one."
