A prolific shoplifter whose haul included Creme Eggs, underwear and £75 worth of cheese has been banned from Ashton-under-Lyne town centre.
Yasar Mahmood swiped hundreds of pounds worth of goods from shops during a three-month stealing spree between January and March this year.
The 38-year-old, of Cranbrook Gardens, appeared before Tameside Magistrates' Court earlier this week and pleaded guilty to eight shoplifting charges.
These included:
- £76 worth of underwear
- £30 of socks
- £71.92 of candles
- £30 worth of washing powder
- £45 of protein powder
- £60 of cheese
- £30 of Creme Eggs and
- Another £15 of cheese
Mahmood was given a Community Order with rehabilitation activity requirement and an eight-week night time curfew, as well as ordered to pay £161 in fines.

He was also handed a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order banning him from entering designated areas of the town centre, such as IKEA and Marks & Spencer, Arcade's Shopping Centre and Asda, unless he has a verified appointment.
Breaching the order is an offence and can carry a prison sentence of up to 5 years.

Speaking on the court result, Tameside inspector Lee Derbyshire said: "We recognise the impact that prolific shoplifters are having on Ashton town centre, and that this offending is often linked to other crime and anti-social behaviour.
"Our town centre team is working hard with local retailers and partner agencies to target those responsible and Criminal Behaviour Orders are a useful problem solving tool for us if a custodial sentence can’t be secured."
