As fall creeps ever closer, my thoughts are turning towards Halloween decorating ideas – especially since the launch of Pottery Barn's Halloween collection. From tableware and soft furnishings to elaborate outdoor accessories, it offers plenty of inspiration for spooky season, but there's one item I'm really coveting: Pottery Barn's terracotta jack o'lantern.
These sell-out pieces flew off the shelves last year, and I'm determined to get my hands on a few before they're all snapped up again. Handmade by artisans, they say subtle Halloween decor and can be re-used year after year.

What I love about the Pottery Barn jack o'lanterns is their versatility. There are six sizes available, ranging from mini (just 5.25 inches tall) to extra large (reaching a height of 14.75 inches). The smaller versions are perfect for spooky tablescapes and mantelpiece decoration, while the bigger options are ideal if you're looking for outdoor Halloween decor.
This year, there are two shapes to choose from: a classic pumpkin or a slightly bulkier gourd. I'm planning on purchasing a mix of the two in a variety of sizes and shades (from washed black to cream and a traditional terracotta orange), so I've got plenty of options when it comes to tablescaping and party decor.
I was originally partial to the time-honored orange jack-o-lantern, but the cream shade has totally won me over. In fact, I'm already tempted to fill a few with twinkling LED lights and show them off at my pre-fall parties. 'Summerween', anyone?
Pick your pumpkin
If you're not sure which of Pottery Barn's jack o'lanterns to choose from, this is a great place to start: I'm a huge fan of the classic terracotta finish, and the small pumpkin is the perfect size for a Halloween centerpiece.
This black jack o'lantern feels like a quintessential Halloween piece. The washed black hue is sure to elevate any spooky gathering, but I love the cheeky grin, too.
If you're on the market for a showstopping item to dress up your porch or staircase, these large jack o'anterns are the answer. The cream shade will complement a more neutral theme.
Complete the look with these buys
Whether you place them inside your jack-o-lanterns or drape them over your mantel, string lights are an essential for any host. I have a few extra sets that I use to decorate my handrail.
Pillar candles are another fall hosting staple. Just like string lights, they're ideal for helping your jack-o-lanterns glow, but they'll also look elegant in a cluster on a shelf or table.
I've already earmarked this delicate garland as the ideal finishing touch to my fall tablescapes; I can imagine it draped artfully across the dinner table, or nestled beside my terracotta jack-o-lanterns.
