This poor dog was 'starving and malnourished' until police stepped in to rescue him

The RSPCA are to investigate after police rescued a 'starving and malnourished' dog.

An officer took the dog back to Altrincham police station, after discovering him at an address while on duty.

In photos shared by police on social media, the dog's ribs can clearly be seen jutting out of his skinny frame.

Officers have now given the dog the name Sam.

They went on to explain that Sam was given 'a lot of love and affection' at the station, and will now be nursed back to health by local vets.

Meanwhile, they have warned that his owner will be 'dealt with'.

Officers said: "The responsible owner will dealt with robustly.

"RSPCA have the authority to prosecute and will be taking the lead on this investigation."
