This one detail in Jessica Simpson’s kitchen made me fall for marble again – I thought I was over this material, but I'm back on board

Jessica Simpson.

I'll be honest, I really thought I was over marble kitchens. They are undeniably chic and refined, sure, but I think I had some fatigue around white marble countertops, ever the omnipresent fixture in modern, celebrity kitchens.

Jessica Simpson may have just changed my mind with her dark variation on the enduring design scheme. The singer and entrepreneur's kitchen features grayish-black painted walls, silver appliances, and, most notably, dark green marble countertops.

While we often see lighter versions of marble kitchens (particularly as white kitchens continue to dominate in contemporary homes), the darker marble fixture adds some elegant moodiness to the space – and it's a look I can get behind.

One of the things I love most about this kitchen is the mix of colors, textures, and materials.

All too often, monochromatic kitchens can feel flat if there is not specific attention paid to layering, which in turn creates focal points of visual interest. Jessica's kitchen, however, gives us lots to admire with her mix of colors (gray, silver, and dark green), materials (marble and stainless steel), and textures (matte, metallic).

Additionally, the subtle green of her marble countertops is a nice take on the green kitchen trend that we are still seeing take on different forms. The dark shade acts as a neutral, complementing the dark walls and metallic appliances beautifully, and further proving that green is the new black.

If you aren't up for a major kitchen renovation but want to achieve the moody, dark marble look that Jessica has executed so well, try experimenting with accessories, such as fruit bowls, trivets, or salt and pepper shakers. Even these smaller items can be impactful in a dark kitchen, adding the aforementioned texture and color that can totally transform a space.

Alternatively, if you're looking to darken up a white kitchen, look for dark gray paints that are bold and versatile. This will serve as a solid foundation for any marble decor or fixtures.
