This on-demand valet service will soon drive you and your car home

July 31--Luxe Valet is best known for helping people find parking. Soon, it will also be known for driving people and their cars home.

The San Francisco company is launching Drive Home in Los Angeles on Aug. 6, a service where a valet drives a customer home in their own vehicle after a night out.

"The idea for it came from thinking about the issue of drunk driving and how we could be part of that solution," said the general manager of Luxe Valet in Los Angeles, Austin Kim. "We already have an on-demand valet service, so we thought, what could we do next?"

To use the service, a customer who has used Luxe to park their car informs Luxe through a mobile app of their pickup location and destination. A Luxe valet then grabs the customer's car from one of its parking lots, picks up the customer, and drives them home for $25, plus $3 per mile, with a 40-mile limit.

The service will launch in downtown L.A. and Hollywood, before rolling to other areas where Luxe Valet currently operates, such as West L.A., Santa Monica and Venice.

The company provides $5 million of insurance coverage for the ride, and after dropping off customers, Luxe's valets make their way back via skateboard, scooter, public transport or a ride-hailing service like Uber or Lyft.

When Luxe's Drive Home service launches, it will be available in Downtown L.A. until midnight on Thursdays and 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. In Hollywood, it will operate until 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
