  • Room calibration with included mic and software

If you're looking for a seriously powerful studio subwoofer that doesn't take up tons of space, IK Multimedia has just the thing: the iLoud Sub. It's a smart subwoofer with a lot of power and a very small footprint – it's just 10x10x11 inches.

IK Multimedia is best known for its recording studio hardware and software, and this subwoofer has been made with desktop studios in mind: the pitch is that if your studio fits on a single desk, this is the subwoofer for you.

iLoud Sub: key features

The iLoud Sub features a 6.5-inch high-performance driver and two 6.5-inch passive radiators. That's smaller than most subwoofers, but there's nothing small about the sound: it goes down to a very low 25Hz and puts out 200W of peak power courtesy of its Class D amplifier. And it uses smart technology to deliver low end that's accurate as well as exciting.

The iLoud Sub features XLR + RCA analog inputs and outputs, a USB digital audio input and Bluetooth streaming. That latter option is basic but effective, with support for the SBC and AAC codecs, but nothing more fancy.

It also comes with ARC X software and an ARC microphone to calibrate it for the acoustics of your space – covering both the sub and your monitor speakers – and it's designed specifically for studio work where you'd team it with your near-field monitors.

The iLoud Sub is available now with a recommended price of $599 / £625 (about AU$905). That's very much not cheap for a little sub, but that price includes the ARC X software and ARC measurement microphone – iLoud says that alone is worth $199.
