This Morning viewers 'switch off' at Dermot O'Leary's 'cringe' Platinum Jubilee habit

This Morning viewers were left ‘cringing’ at Dermot O’Leary’s Queen’s Platinum Jubilee behaviour as the ITV daytime programme got off to a start on Friday.

The former X Factor host presented the show alongside Alison Hammond and as they ran through the schedule for the day, Dermot hung off Alison and begged her to sing the ‘Platty Jubes’ song she gave viewers a rendition of on Thursday.

The Jubilee celebrations continued on This Morning on Friday, but as Dermot impersonated a whining child and continued to beg a resistant Alison to sing the song, viewers were unimpressed.

This Morning fans noted his repetition of the viral ‘Platty Jubes’ phrase with “irritation”, with some even switching channels.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “Oh Christ. 1 minute in and Dermot is already off on one,” as another savagely penned: “Dermot you're embarrassing yourself.”

A fellow viewer wrote: “F*** off with Platty Jube s*** . . it’s not big and it’s definitely not clever Dermot.”

Another penned: “Mmmh slight tension between Dermot and Alison,” as another wrote: “It’s obvious even Alison doesn’t like Dermot’s jokes! So cringe.”

Alongside a facepalm emoji a fellow fan wrote: “Why are they calling the Platinum Jubilee Platty Jubes. Time to turn over.”

One wrote: “Alison and Dermot (someone tell him to stop trying so hard) make me actually psychically cringe.

"I can’t even. How the hell does the control room take a breath from cringing to run VTs.”

The Jubilee celebrations are being spread over four days of events, and began with Trooping the Colour on Thursday, with a four-day weekend to mark the monarch’s 70 year reign.

Thousands turned out in central London as celebrations began for the Queen's unprecedented reign.

This comes after This Morning guest Julian Clary left Alison and Dermot red-faced on Thursday as he shared with ITV viewers what the pair get up to during advertisement breaks.

The ITV daytime show returned from an ad break to sit down with the 63-year-old actor and discuss his new children’s book.

But Julian kicked off the interview by telling fans at home what had happened during the ad break.

He said: “I think they should film what goes on in the break. What viewers don't know is a woman comes over and gives Dermot some deodorant.”

A slightly red-faced Dermot insisted that it was “not every break” that he needed a whiff top-up, saying it was “amongst other things”.

The former X Factor host then joked that if his and Alison’s ad-break antics were filmed and broadcast, the pair would be at risk of being sacked as they giggled on the sofa.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
