This Morning viewers slam Holly and Phil for ‘egotistical’ look back at lockdown

This Morning fans were not impressed on Tuesday as hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield spoke about their year in lockdown.

The ITV duo took part in a minute's silence at midday as the country marked it being one year since Prime Minister Boris Johnson told everyone to stay at home.

Holly, 40, and Phil, 55, then proceeded to show a montage video of the last year of them hosting This Morning, with a joint commentary playing alongside it.

The clip showed them inviting the Prime Minister on the show in early March 2020, interviewing an array of NHS doctors and also them enjoying a hug via a plastic shower curtain.

But it seems a lot of viewers were not impressed with their look back at the last year, and were quick to comment on Twitter.

"That montage on #ThisMorning was so self centered and so egotistical.. if they really wanted to honour everyone they’d have shown the names of some of those who have died from coronavirus," one person tweeted.

A second tweeted: "This is seriously hard to watch. They were hardly key workers or on the front line. The self praise is revolting #ThisMorning," followed by a vomiting face.

A third viewer added: "The self admiration is strong with these two today #thismorning," while a fourth posted: "From a minutes silence to patting themselves on the back? #thismorning."

A fifth person fumed: "Typical #ThisMorning making a global pandemic about themselves and how they’ve cheered the nation up.."

The This Morning montage included footage of people taking part in a dance-a-thon on the ITV show (ITV)

However, other fans tuning in were grateful for the montage and even felt emotional while watching it.

"#ThisMorning watching the recap on the last year has made me really emotional, we’ve been through so much. Having @thismorning to get us through this has really kept me going. Thank you #ThisMorning," someone tweeted.

Another added: "Watching the segment of #OneYearOn from #COVID19 and I’m feeling incredibly emotional looking back and hoping this nightmare ends soon. Thank you #ThisMorning and thinking of every single person who has been impacted! @Schofe @hollywills."

During the montage, Holly and Phillip revealed that they filmed drinking segments from the comfort of their own homes in case they weren't able to go into the studio to record the popular ITV show.

*This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
