This Morning viewers slam Eamonn Holmes over mental health comment

This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes has been blasted by viewers tuning into today's episode over a comment he made about mental health.

Sitting alongside his co-host and wife Ruth Langsford, the pair welcomed Dr Tanya Byron onto the show as they discussed the topic of mental health.

The 60-year-old claimed: "It seems that everyone today has problems with mental health", leaving the clinical psychologist and viewers taken aback.

He added: "You open a magazine and everyone is talking about a problem with their mental health."

Dr Byron responded by saying: "Just like our bodies break, sometimes our minds can break.

"It's about understanding, whether that's about mental health or other health and lifestyle issues."

It comes just days after the tragic passing of former Love Island presenter Caroline Flack who was found dead in her London flat.

An inquest on Wednesday (Feb 19) ruled her death as suicide. She was just 40-years-old.

Fans watching from home quickly flocked to social media to react to Eamonn's remark.

"Eamonn & his thick, ignorant remarks... how is this man on TV??!"One unimpressed viewer tweeted.

Another fumed: "Not everyone has it or will get mental health issues."

"I know we are supposed to be kind on social media but why is Eamonn Holmes on the telly? Creepy undertones, condescending to his wife, belittles serious issues. #ThisMorning" A third wrote.

Meanwhile, a fourth said: "Good point Eamonn! Mental health has become a really good excuse for bad behaviour and nobody dares question it. It's not fair to genuine sufferers. #ThisMorning"
