This Morning viewers plead for warning after 'disturbing' images of dogs in markets are shown

This Morning viewers were left horrified earlier today after being confronted with the imagery of animals suffering in wet markets.

Upset fans called for a warning to be displayed prior to airing the scenes next time.

Animal rights campaigners are calling for a stop to wet markets, which involves selling live animals and butchering them in front of customers.

PETA have warned that they are a "breeding ground for diseases" after reports that COVID-19 likely came from bats, which passed it onto another animal sold at a wet market.

This would have been the same way that the 2002 Sars outbreak infected humans after it moved from horseshoe bats to cat-like civets.

A spokesperson from PETA spoke to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield and explained that wet markets are a "global problem".

And viewers were sickened over the images of animals in squalid cages and took to Twitter to comment.

One wrote: "Really hard to watch, so sad to see these animals in these cages :( #ThisMorning @thismorning."

While another commented: "Woah give us a warning before u put these animal images on please #ThisMorning @Schofe."

A third tweeted: "Please stop! #thismorning."

"@thismorning TRIGGER WARNING PLEASE #ThisMorning," another commented.

Another wrote: "I know, it’s horrible! Made me cry!"

*This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
