This Morning viewers 'mute the TV' as Julia Hartley-Brewer questions lockdown roadmap

A broadcaster's latest claims on lockdown prompted some This Morning viewers to suggest muting the TV, as they questioned her views on the issue.

Julia Hartley-Brewer appeared on the ITV show and said the current projected dates for the unlocking of Britain were "over cautious", while suggesting that schools never should have closed.

Addressing the supposedly cautious nature of the lockdown roadmap, due to be announced by Boris Johnson today, the radio presenter expressed her own concerns.

The 52-year-old said: "Actually I would say this is very risky.

"There is a huge risk to unlocking so slowly.

"In May and June we're still talking about whether or not you can serve a drink indoors when 99% of the people who are at risk of dying of coronavirus, or being seriously ill, will have had the protection of the first dose of the vaccine.

"I think it is far too over cautious and there is a huge cost in not allowing businesses to go back sooner."

Twitter users were quick to respond.

One, Deb, said: "Sorry but I have to disagree with Julia. Opening everything too fast will only start wave 3. The prime minister has done his best and should not be rushed. I know for a fact that a school closed due to the amount of teachers and pupils who contracted the virus."

Tyler said: "'We are being over cautious' !? Is Julia delirious or is she just ignorant to what has happened over the last year?"

Dave said: "Don’t think Julia realises people are still dying? Yes death rates are dropping but opening up restaurants and doing this eat out to help out thing will be disastrous."

Some viewers went so far as to suggest a new way to watch whenever the Breakfast Show presenter visits the show.

Lauren said: "Tip for #ThisMorning viewers: mute your tv whenever Julia speaks and it's much more enjoyable to watch."
