This Morning viewers in hysterics as David Bowie doll looks more like Cilla Black

This Morning viewers had a chuckle during Friday's episode of the ITV show, thanks to a doll supposedly meant to resemble David Bowie instead looking like another very famous dead singer.

Hosts Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond pointed out how much the doll released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Hunky Dory album actually looks more like songstress Cilla Black, who passed away in 2015 - a year before the Heroes hitmakers death.

"It's supposed to be David Bowie but it looks more like Cilla Black," Alison giggled on the sofa, as co-host Dermot agreed and declared: "It's even dressed like Cilla Black!"

"Do you think they had a job lot of Cilla Black dolls and they thought they'd get away with it?" Dermot went on to sarcastically muse.

"It looks nothing like him," Alison added - with viewers watching at home agreeing with the former Big Brother contestant.

"Oh blimey this doll should be David Bowie but looks more like Cilla Black," one fan tweeted alongside a snap of their TV screen with the dodgy doll visible.

The This Morning presenters weren't convinced by the latest Barbie doll on Friday (ITV)

"C’mon it’s clearly Cilla Black, how’s that David Bowie," another quipped, with a third adding: "#thismorning how is this meant to be David Bowie when it’s got 2 blue eyes for a start?!"

One viewer stuck up for the doll designers, taking to Twitter to share: "#thismorning Actually, it’s supposed to be a Barbie doll dressed like Bowie, not Bowie himself. Far removed from sour-faced Cilla."

Mattel released the Bowie-inspired Barbie doll to mark the recent 50th anniversary of the late singer's fourth studio album, Hunky Dory.

The Barbie-as-Bowie dolls rocks the infamous powder-blue suit the late icon donned for his Life On Mars? music video, complete with a statement tie and platform boots.

"Barbie honors the ultimate pop chameleon with a tribute to @DavidBowieReal & his impact on music, art, fashion & film," a tweet shared from the official Barbie account earlier this week reads.

"#Barbie as Bowie wears a replica of the powder-blue suit from his “Life On Mars?” music video & hairstyle inspired by his ‘70s glam era."

Barbie-as-Bowie is currently sold out (ITV)

Mattel replied with a play on some of Bowie's most famous lyrics, writing: "Oh man, wonder if she'll ever know/ She's in the best selling show."

Music fans were quick to point out that the Barbie-as-Bowie tribute actually looks like other various famous faces, with names like Gillian Anderson and Jessica Chastain suggested as doll doppelgangers in addition to Cilla.

Despite some mixed feedback and jokes online, the doll is clearly a hit with Barbie and Bowie fans - with a 2 per customer limit imposed on fans due to demand and currently being sold out on the Mattel website.
