This Morning viewers furious as Phillip Schofield breaks silence on Spin to Win prize

This Morning viewers were furious after Phillip Schofield brushed off backlash to the controversial Spin to Win competition.

The daily competition allows viewers to call in for a chance of winning a hefty cash prize of up to £1000. If they answer their phone immediately with the daily password they would be given the choice of bingo balls or a spin on the wheel.

The wheel gave viewers more of a visual look at what prizes they could win but a recent switch-up left the public fuming, labelling the show "a disgrace." Following a brief summer hiatus and the cost of living crisis rising, 50% of the wheel's usual cash prizes were switched out in favour of "energy bills."

The move was branded as tone-deaf "dystopian" "poverty porn" by viewers who couldn't believe the show was bold enough to make such a switch. Introducing the segment again today, Phillip Schofield said: "And now for the game everyone's talking about."

The wheel was reintroduced with "household bills," taking up only one-quarter of the board compared to yesterday's half. He added the household bill prize would also cover up to a year's worth of costs with a maximum of £3,000, more than doubling the initial amount.

Viewers shared their disgust at the switch up alongside Phillip's casual demeanour to the backlash. One viewer said: "Philip Schofield: Right, everyone talking about it. Let’s play spin to win. *smug grin* No acknowledgement of how out of touch they were. No apology. JUST LET PEOPLE WIN MONEY AND LET PEOPLE DO WHATEVER THEY WANT WITH IT!"

Another added: "“Everybody’s talking about it, let’s play Spin to Win!” They’re talking about it for the wrong reasons Phil. The sheer amount of deafness between these two is staggering."

A third viewer said: "Household bills!? The arrogance!!!"

A final comment added: "Badly done Phillip Schofield, graceless, prickly and tone deaf." At the end of the segment, Phillip again mocked the game as he said: "I wonder how much of that they'll complain about online."
