This Morning viewers fume over guest's 'joke' about Meghan Markle

Some This Morning viewers found themselves annoyed at a guest's 'joke' about Meghan Markle just moments into Thursday's show.

Presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary were joined by Nicola Thorp and Julia Hartley Brewer for the regular 'This Morning View' segment.

Their first topic was the latest picture released by the Royal Family following the death of Prince Philip.

The image shows the Duke of Edinburgh sat alongside the Queen, surrounded by seven of their great-grandchildren at Balmoral Castle in 2018.

The image was taken by the Duchess of Cambridge and was shared from the official Royal Family Twitter account as each senior royal shared a different image of the duke in tribute.

However, This Morning viewers were left stunned by a comment Julia made, The Manchester Evening News reports.

Speaking about the image, she said: "I wonder if Meghan [Markle] has managed to take offence to this photograph because it doesn't include her son."

She then went on to claim how the Duchess of Sussex would feel as it was taken before Archie was born, and brought up the racism claims Meghan discussed in her interview with Oprah Winfrey last month.

"I'm sure she's managed to take offence at it anyway," Julia added.

Nicola then responded: "Julia, you can't say something like that," to which Julie later said she was simply making a joke.

Dermot then interjected as things started to get tense: "Ladies please, let's move on to the next subject."

"We thought we'd start off with a lighter subject," he then joked before moving on.

But viewers were not happy.

"Omg did I really hear Julia say this?? #ThisMorning. What is offensive is your comment!! Who is this?" wrote one.

Another said: "#ThisMorning disgusting comment by Julia. And she laughs."

"Shame on Dermot and Alison *as presenters* for not calling out Julia for her ‘joke’. It’s so so sad. Anorher guest had to stop her. @thismorning it was huge mistake from the producers!!!!! " a third added.

A fourth said: "What an utter inappropriate comment to say Julia. This was just an excuse to have a dig at Megan."

"@thismorning @JuliaHB1 comments are vile - she shouldn't be on @ITV #ThisMorning well done @nicolathorp_ for speaking up," another fumed.
