This Morning viewers criticise Eamonn and Ruth for actions on show - even though they explained why

Some This Morning viewers have hit out at Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford for appearing not to adhere to current government advice.

The presenters were back at the helm of the ITV show on Friday as it still continues to air during the coronavirus pandemic.

But eagle-eyed fans quickly realised that the pair were sat pretty close together and not observing the two-metre social distancing measures.

And while viewers are right about the rules - Eamonn and Ruth DID explain why they're somewhat of an exception.

The couple had to explain (ITV)

"As regards to social distancing, now don't bother phoning in and asking 'why are these two together?'" Eamonn said at the top of Friday's programme.

"Because we are together, we live together. In case a lot of you don't know this, we actually do!"

Ruth then joked: "Some people think it's a fake marriage, a TV marriage.

"A lot of people think how could she have pulled him?"

Adding: "Punching!"

Eamonn continued: "But we even share a bed... when I don't fall asleep downstairs in the sofa."

"We're ok, this is allowed because we're from the same household," Ruth added.

But that didn't stop people taking to social media.

"Yes you both may live together, but i still feel you should be setting an example to your viewers (2 metres apart) #ThisMorning," said one.

Another commented: "Can the presenters please sit apart from each other and give guidance to the general population on safety by their example? #ThisMorning."

"#ThisMorning have a word! I know they’re married but at least observe social distancing whilst on National TV. Also you’re not telling me all those people through the window walking around and driving are key workers! Fuming! @piersmorgan sort it out," said a third.

Others, however, were quick to defend the married couple.

Viewers still had something to say (ITV)

A viewer tweeted: "Have the tweets about them not sitting apart started yet? THEY LIVE IN THE SAME HOUSEHOLD."

"Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once! The reason why Eamonn and Ruth are sitting so close together is because they are married and they live in the same house #ThisMorning," added another.

And it's not the first time the show has come, unnecessarily, under fire this week.

Fellow hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield had to explain on Wednesday all about that 'window' they present in front of every day.

This is because people tweeted the show to ask why it still seemed busy outside the studio.

Even during lockdown, This Morning is providing some telly drama.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
