This Morning fans cringe as Phil snaps at Meghan's friend in 'painfully frosty' interview

This Morning viewers were left cringing today over a "painfully frosty" interview with Meghan Markle's friend Janina Gavankar.

Janina, who claims that she has been friends with Meghan for 17 years, seemed reluctant to answer many questions put to her by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

Asked to describe what Meghan was like, Janina said: "She is kind and generous. She is that kind of girl you go to if she has a problem... she's low maintenance."

She added: "It was clear that she had found her soulmate."

After numerous awkward questions and answers, Phil appeared visibly frustrated but continued to probe her on when she found out that Meghan and Harry would be leaving the Royal Family.

"I found out late," she replied evasively. "They had already had discussions well before I saw them in Canada for Christmas."

Questioned on why Meghan said that she had no one to talk to, Janina pointedly replied that she "believed she said that she had no one to talk to in the institution" and that Meghan had spoken to friends while she was struggling.

Clearly fed up about the awkward atmosphere, Phil asked her whether she had spoken to Meghan about coming on and said that he "didn't know what her role was" doing the interview.

Meanwhile Janina kept grinning and said that she was "surprised" by the questions and when questioned about whether there were any more truths to come out, she replied: "Yes I feel that we are in a new era."

And viewers were left feeling incredibly uncomfortable by the whole interview, with one tweeting: "#ThisMorning Well @thismorning that should get an award for the most awkward pointless interview with the most obnoxious person ever! #Meghanssocalledfriend."

While another commented: "#thismorning Who is this woman who has come on the show and said absolutely nothing ? What is the point of giving her airtime for goodness sake."

A third wrote: "Janina, the most pointless, most passive aggressive guest in a loooong time. #ThisMorning."

"Janina is that your 5 minutes of fame? #ThisMorning," another questioned.

Another pleaded: "Can we cut this short now please it's painful #ThisMorning."
