This Morning viewers ask if they're having a 'fever dream' as studio is taken over before fuming over 'strange' move

This Morning viewers were left wondering what was happening and if they were having a 'fever dream' as the studio was taken over. The ITV daytime show was back on screens on Tuesday (June 27) and Holly Willoughby returned after taking an unexpected day off on Monday.

She was fronting the second edition of the programme of the week with Craig Doyle who wasted no time in quizzing her over an obvious problem. "Hello, good morning and welcome to your Tuesday This Morning," Holly said, getting slightly sheepish as the sentence went on before turning to Craig who was already looking at her suspiciously.

"What's going on there?" he asked as Holly pointed to her throat and said: "What this?" Craig continued: "A bit of a summer cold is it? A bit of summer allergies is it? Probably a bit of pollen..." Craig cheekily pressed before Holly admitted: "I've3 officially been Glasto'd. This is what this voice is. It's always the first thing to go and I blame Elton John for this because, did you see him on Sunday?"

She then went on: "He was so amazing. It was just one of the best things I've seen. The whole weekend was incredible but to finish on this moment... And I sang my socks off and now I sound like this. But honestly, it was just... I just had the best weekend ever."

But the reminiscing over her epic weekend, which she spent with her husband Dan Baldwin and a group of their pals, couldn't last too long as Holly and Craig had a busy show to get on with.

After a review of the latest news headlines with their two guests, the new hosting duo got on with the array of segments usually seen on This Morning including a stint in the kitchen with Juliet Sear who knocked up her mini blueberry lemon loaf cakes and classic show makeover with the help of Trinny Woodall.

Shrek took over the This Morning studio (ITV)

But it was the latest performance on the programme that left viewers flocking to social media to comment as none other than Shrek burst his way through the studio doors before singing and strutting his way through to the famous sofa which he jumped upon alongside Holly and Craig.

The iconic green ogre was then joined by Donkey and Princess Fiona, played by former Strictly Come Dancing star Joanne Clifton, as the touring cast of Shrek The Musical let viewers know what they can expect if they head to see the show when it travels up and down the country by belting out I’m A Believer.

As the roof-raising performance played out, @Dayjur11 tweeted: "I'm having a fever dream. #thismorning." @clsyoshimoo posted: "WHAT THE ACTUAL F**K #thismorning." @tashxlfc echoed: "Wtf is this #thismorning." @Boppity_Boo34 added: "What the heck is this #ThisMorning."

But others were confused when, following the performance, Joanne joined Holly and Craig on the sofa for a chat. @criticaltv1 said: "Why didn't they talk to Shrek and donkey, I found that really strange..." before fuming: "Shrek and donkey told to p**s off, who is this woman, seems to think she's the star of Shrek , when the show it literally called Shrek not Fiona #thismorning."
