This Morning viewer lost £2k to scammer 'actor' promising a meet and greet

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were gobsmacked on Wednesday's This Morning as one viewer explained how she was scammed out of £2,000.

The duo welcomed agony aunt Deidre Sanders into the ITV studio to lead the latest phone in, but they weren't expecting such a shocking story from the first caller.

The woman, who decided to use the false name of 'Emma', sounded absolutely gutted as she explained to the trio: "I was scammed this weekend."

Father-of-two Phillip then asked Emma to elaborate and asked: "How did they get you?"

Emma continued: "Someone contacted me off of social media, I thought it was an actor that I admired and liked watching, I was totally drawn in, and it wasn't."

"Oh my God, I'm so sorry," Holly replied as Phillip asked: "So this actor that you admire asked you for money?" to which she responded: "Yes."

Deidre, 76, then asked her: "How much did you lose?" as Emma paused for a second before saying: "Well I was led to believe I was gonna have a meet and greet... erm £2,000."

Holly, 41, looked shocked at the amount and was heard saying: "Emma, Emma, Emma..." as Phillip remarked: "God, they can come at you from any direction."

Deidre was keen to try and reassure the caller and described it as "the most horrible feeling" before asking Emma if she had been to the police.

Emma confirmed her son had helped her report the crime to the police but she hasn't "heard any more since she phoned them".

"Bearing in mind that it may not be a person, it's probably a group of people, a very organised bunch of robbers," Phillip then said.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
