This Morning travel expert Simon Calder sparks uproar by revealing quarantine 'loophole'

This Morning travel expert Simon Calder caused anger from viewers at home after revealing a 'loophole' to travel quarantine.

Over the past few weeks, Simon has appeared on the ITV show on numerous occasions to answer people's queries about where they stand with any holidays abroad in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

He freely admits that while other people, including This Morning host Eamonn Holmes, are reluctant to travel overseas, he "can't wait to get away," but shocked people watching at home by revealing a way to get around the quarantine restrictions that have been imposed due to COVID-19.

Many countries require visitors to quarantine the minute they get there, with tourists also facing a two week stint in isolation once they return back to the UK, with the Government advice being to 'go straight home, avoiding public transport where possible.'

But identifying a loophole, Simon explained: "Anyone coming in from the common travel area, as you know that’s the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man and that’s created the so-called “Dublin Dodge” where all you need to do, actually if you don’t fancy quarantining is to fly to Dublin Airport, put a foot on Irish soil and then fly whichever UK airport you want."

He added: "‘I am not condoning this, it will increase the risk to everyone you encounter on the way but I am afraid that loophole is sitting very much in the middle of the quarantine rules."

But his backtracking came too late for some viewers. One took to Twitter straight away to rant: "Wow! @thismorning @SimonCalder first you tell us not to shower then you give us tips on returning to the country without quarantine using a stop in Ireland. You’ll be the first screaming blue murder if we get a second wave. "

Another blasted: "Simon!! Stop telling people how to do it then!!" and a third reacted: "If one person now uses this loophole because he mentioned it and starts the increase of R off again then it’s on your head."
