This Morning travel expert Simon Calder branded 'quarantine dodger' by angry viewers

Simon Calder has been labelled a 'quarantine dodger' by some incensed This Morning viewers after returning to the show on Wednesday.

Simon, the ITV programme's resident travel expert, caused controversy earlier this week when he gave advice on how people could avoid two week isolation after returning from Spain, following the Government's decision to remove it from the UK 'safe travel' list.

The ruling means any Brits returning home from Spain, including the Balearic and Canary Islands, will need to quarantine for two weeks, but Simon told them they could avoid being stuck at home by going on another holiday, telling a shocked Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford: "the only way to reduce two weeks of quarantine you have to serve when returning here is to, believe it or not, leave the country again. To go to France, to Italy, or to anywhere else you like."

As well as Ruth being quick to shoot down Simon's advice, viewers accused him of giving 'dangerous' information and there was a similar reaction when he returned to the studio on Wednesday.

He took calls from concerned viewers with holidays booked, one who was due to fly to Greece in a matter of days.

Giving her reassurance, he said: "You'd be far safer in Greece than you would be in the UK. Yes in the process of getting there you will cross paths with lots of strangers and there's a small risk that comes with that, but in general you're far better off.

"I'd feel very comfortable and very excited."

And once again viewers were not happy with him. One ranted: "Shut up already, Simon! Your credibility is permanently destroyed after what you said on Monday! F*****g quarantine dodger!"

Echoing those sentiments, another tweeted: "Simon Calder again!! With his quarantine-dodging advice," and a third added: "Surprised Simon Calder is back on after last time."
