This Morning theme tune gets bagpipes revamp to shock of unimpressed viewers

This Morning viewers got a big surprise on Monday when the ITV show's famous theme tune had an unexpected revamp.

Just like every week day, the daytime programme kicked off at 10am on the dot with its theme sounding a lot different to normal, with its melody played out live by a piper.

And the reason for This Morning's theme being played on the bagpipes is that today, Monday, January 25, is Burns Night, the annual occasion when people across the world honour legendary poet Robert Burns.

The musician responsible for the Burns Night inspired version was Louise Marshall, who gave her performance via Skype.

Reacting to it, host Phillip Schofield remarked: "Tricky on Skype isn't it? Skype is unflattering for something as beautiful as that.

"That was the brilliant Louise Marshall playing the bagpipes for us from Edinburgh."

Agreeing with Phillip on the Skype situation, one viewer tweeted: "Bag pipes in the real sound fabulous. On Skype they sound s**t," and another reacted: "Thanks for the awful bagpipes theme tune intro!!!!"

Louise's version of the theme tune set the tone for the episode, with more Burns related content packed in; including whisky themed dishes for a Burns Night Supper, chef John Tarode taking a trip to the Scottish Highlands and former Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti Pellow joining Phillip and Holly for a special performance.
