This Morning's Simon Calder issues warning to Brits over booking 'extraordinarily cheap' flights

Travel expert Simon Calder has issued a warning to Brits about being tempted to book 'ridiculously cheap' flights.

Simon, who has been a regular and, at times, controversial guest on This Morning was back on the show on Wednesday as England goes into national lockdown for a third time in less than 12 months.

The new restrictions have meant that holiday plans have once again been put on hold, with what Simon described as 'a blanket ban' on travelling, putting jetting off to the sun firmly off the agenda.

However, he did reveal to hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby that some airlines were already offering flights for the coming months to countries like Greece.

But he said Brits needed to be very careful when trying to bag a bargain, explaining: "There are extraordinary deals out there! If you're prepared to take a chance on early March, you can go to Greece for £15 on a well known low cost airline.

"But of course, if things go a bit wrong, some airlines are going to say 'well the fact that you are still in lockdown and you're not allowed to travel isn't our problem - the flight's still going, the seat is there,' - either you lose it or you possibly pay extra to change it.

"If you're thinking of a DIY holiday, which have some merits, I would hold off for a while."

Admitting that he'd "pay anything and go anywhere," Simon said the way to go if you're planning ahead is a package holiday.

He said: "It's important to consider how you're going to book. Absolutely the best way to do it is to talk to a real human travel agent, at the moment probably on the phone rather than face to face, and book a proper package holiday.

"Then you'll know you'll either get the trip you absolutely need and deserve or you'll get your money back."

Simon did add that people should expect higher prices, saying: "You could up paying a mid-market price for a bargain basement holiday."
