This Morning's Phillip Schofield 'shows up' Holly Willoughby within seconds of their return

It took just seconds of them being back on the show for Phillip Schofield to embarrass Holly Willoughby on This Morning.

The presenting pair have been absent from the ITV daytime show since the middle of December, when they signed off for their festive break.

Many viewers were expecting to see them back at the helm last week, when This Morning aired its first episodes of 2022, but again, they were nowhere to be seen as Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary took the reins.

However, after an advert before Sunday night's Vera, confirmed Holly and Phillip's return, they were back in action on Monday, with Philip wasting no time in showing Holly up as she struggled to grasp the relevance of a song playing in the background.

The strains of January by Pilot filled the air as the camera panned to the hosts sitting behind their desk in the studio, with Phillip remarking: "This is a song of my childhood," to which Holly asked: "Do I know this?"

As Phillip confirmed: "It's by Pilot. It's very old," Holly quizzed: "Is he singing January?" to which Phillip told her: "That's the reason we're playing it," as the crew behind the camera all started to laugh.

Embarrassed by her failure to pick up on the obvious, Holly told Phillip: "I thought you just put a request in for a song," and he joked: "The follow up single was called March, but we're not playing that one!

"Ahhh dear! Well it's very nice to see you, here we go."

While plenty of viewers are excited to have Holly and Phillip back on This Morning, others are pushing for Alison and Dermot to get more airtime, while others loved the partnership of Vernon Kay and Josie Gibson.
