This Morning's Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby confirm break as favourite 'axed'

Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby won't be on This Morning for a while as they take a break for Christmas, with them also confirming the 'axing' of popular game Spin to Win for the rest of the year.

Phillip and Holly are known for taking leaves of absence throughout the year, typically during school holidays, although this year they have been absence more so than usual, due to positive Covid tests and Holly filming new BBC show Freeze the Fear. Over the course of the last 12 months, This Morning's main hosts have been missing during half term, Easter and summer breaks and, after a hectic show on Friday, announced they will be missing in action for the rest of the year, apart from the show's pre-recorded Christmas Day episode.

During Friday's live two and a half broadcast, Phillip and Holly, like many other TV anchors, discussed Harry and Meghan's Netflix documentary, with Holly fiercely defending Kate Middleton, hosted a phone-in on viewers' dating woes, as well as trying out a selection of Christmas tipples. And there was also three chances to win with separate rounds of Spin to Win.

However, while that meant that more callers than usual were in the money, Holly and Phillip had bad news for anyone who enters to try and play the game every day - it now won't be played again until the New Year.

And, as well as Spin to Win being shelved, the hosts themselves will be absent from the studio. Holly and Phillip announced their festive break in the closing moments of Friday's show, with Holly saying: "Well, we are off for a bit of a break now, but we look forward to see you on Christmas Day."

She continued: "Next week Alison and Dermot will be joined by another popstar aiming for Christmas number one...it's Basil Brush."

Teasing what else was coming up in his and Holly's absence, Phillip announced that Alan Titchmarsh would also be making an appearance, with popular chef Clodagh McKenna also due in the studio.
