Interior design guru Kelly Hoppen has revealed when people should put their Christmas tree up but then made a huge u-turn.
The issue of when people put their festive decorations up is one that always divides the nation, with some chomping at the bit to turn their living rooms into a veritable Santa's Grotto while other people are happy to have the tree up a week before Christmas Day and then take it down before New Year.
With this year being a torrid one, some Brits, including more than a few in the North East, have tried to inject some premature festive cheer and much needed happiness into their homes by having their tree and decorations up already, a move that has been frowned upon by those of a more bah humbug mentality.
A woman who knows a thing or two about decorations is internationally renowned interior designer Kelly Hoppen and, following on from host Holly Willoughby' s prediction that she'll have her tree up by the end of the week, Kelly appeared on Tuesday's This Morning.
Prior to giving interior design advice to callers, Holly asked her: "As an interior designer, is there an official moment you put the tree up? What would be your advice?"
Kelly replied; "Just listening to you saying you get that fuzzy feeling, I'm exactly the same.
"Really December 1 I guess."
But then recognising what a bleak time of things we've had this year, Kelly backtracked and added: "But I think this year we've had such a horrible year, we should all put them up now!"
A delighted Holly responded: "There you go! It's official, she's declared tree season open!"
Prior to Kelly's appearance, This Morning put a call out on Twitter for people's opinions on whether it was acceptable to have your Christmas tree up already and got a huge response.
One follower replied: "We have our Xmas tree up, 1st nov. It’s obviously been a tough year and what better way to make yourself smile than a Xmas tree!" and another commented: "Putting it all up. My outside lights - the lot. We all need cheering up."
And, reacting to Kelly's advice, another joked: "I bet Kelly Hoppen has a Grey Christmas Tree."
