This Morning's Holly Willoughby says she cried during Phillip Schofield's appearance on The One Show

Holly Willoughby has said she cried during Phillip Schofield's appearance on The One Show.

Phillip, 58, was on the BBC programme on Wednesday night ahead of the release of his first book.

Life's What You Make It, which is released today, sees the TV star bravely discuss the depths of his despair as he grappled with his sexuality.

In the book he speaks of the moment he told his This Morning co-host and best pal Holly that he was gay before she joined him on the ITV show to interview him when he came out in February.

Paying tribute to the mum-of-three, Phillip said on The One Show: "I couldn't have done that with anyone else.

"I wouldn't have wanted anyone else sitting beside me.

"We'd had a big lead up to that moment. When I knew what I had to do, Holly was one of the first people that I told.

"She's such a wise person, she's got such a calm, sensitive aura to her. Everyone at home was saying, 'It'll be ok, it'll be ok', and Holly was saying 'It'll be fine.'

"She was the only one who knew at work at that time. Then we sort of had to figure out how to do something like that."

Phillip was discussing his new book on The One Show (BBC)

He went on to explain that the pair had decided to ask Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes if they could take ten minutes from one of their shows for the emotional interview.

Holly said in a series of post to her Instagram Stories on Thursday morning that she had avoided skipping to 'her parts' in the book when asked if she had read 'her bits' in the memoir.

But did say: "You talking on The One Show last night actually made me cry as I never heard you say that."

Life’s What You Make It by Phillip Schofield is out now. This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
