This Morning's Holly Willoughby left screaming on live show after Phillip Schofield sets fire to her hand

This Morning doesn’t often shy away from potentially dangerous experiments - and today was no exception.

But poor Holly Willoughby is likely going to need some time to recover from this one, which involved her co-host Phillip Schofield setting fire to her hand.

The duo were again joined by Dr Zoe Laughlin who was demonstrating a series of very visual experiments, which included one that is used methane gas.

As Dr Zoe explained the experiment, cheeky Phil couldn’t resist winding a horrified Holly up about her own, ahem, wind.

“That’s 97 per cent methane,” the doc explained. “Which is what we produce when we fart, what cows produce when they fart, the greenhouse effect...”

Holly exclaimed, between laughs: “I do not.”

“Yours is rose gas,” said a helpful Phil.

Dr Zoe then demonstrated how they could set fire to their hand using methane bubbles.

“Let’s brace ourselves,” she said.

Holly refused point blank to take part in it, but Phil was willing.

He put a naked flame onto the bubbles, which were on the doc’s hand, and it went up in a burst of red flames, leading to plenty of squeals.

“Oh I love that,” said Phil.

Holly exclaimed, “doesn’t that hurt?” before bravely deciding to have a go herself.

When Phil lit the spark, Holly screamed the studio down before saying, “It was fine, it was fine.”

"You threw it on the floor," he replied. "'Can I have a go?' What were you expecting?"

This Morning airs weekdays from 10.30am on ITV.
