This Morning's Holly and Phil celebrate Eamonn Holmes' birthday - as show shake-up confirmed

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield wished their This Morning co-star Eamonn Holmes a happy birthday on the show on Thursday.

The pair revealed they had left a special something from the team for the long-time presenter of the show in the studio.

Eamonn and wife Ruth Langsford return to host the series as normal on Friday, on what could be one of their final shows for a while.

From January, the show sees a major shake-up on the presenting panel, with Ruth and Eamonn moved to just half-terms when Holly and Phil are absent.

Instead, the pair will be replaced by new hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, who will take the Friday episodes going forward.

Eamonn spoke out this week for the first time over the news, after reports circulated last month.

He responded to viewers who aired their upset about the favourites being dropped from Friday's shows.

Eamonn also wished his replacements well, as he reacted to the big news on Twitter - with many praising him for his gracious response, calling him "a gent".

This included his ITV co-stars such as Loose Women's Kaye Adams and soap expert Sharon Marshall.

After This Morning finally confirmed the news last week, he wrote: "It’s a changing of the guard on Fridays from January.

"We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you’ve made us over the years. Have a Ball you two!

"It’s not Goodbye from us, it’s simply Au Revoir until the next half term."

Speaking about the telly favourite on the show on Thursday morning, Holly said: "Can we just say a very happy birthday to Eamonn Holmes.

"Happy birthday, darling. Eamonn, we hope you have a brilliant day and that Ruth is spoiling you, and we can tell you there is a little something waiting for you here tomorrow."

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
