This Morning's Eamonn Holmes hits back at claims show is sending wrong message about coronavirus

This Morning host Eamonn Holmes has hit back at accusations that the show was 'sending the wrong message' about coronavirus.

As they do every Friday, Eamonn and wife Ruth Langsford took the helm for the ITV programme's final show of the week but came under fire from some viewers that This Morning was making light of the outbreak and Government rules on social distancing.

And it's because, as it has on numerous occasions since the outbreak, broadcast against a backdrop of London's Southbank showing crowds of people walking and cycling past.

The backdrop is, as you might expect, recorded not actually live, but that didn't stop some people watching from slamming the show.

Responding to one viewer called Jason who took exception to the background, Eamonn said: "Obviously a first time viewer...Jason it's recorded...that's a recording, it's nearly two years old."

But even those viewers who picked up on the fact the Southbank footage was recorded were still unimpressed, given that we're all being told to stay indoors wherever possible, saying This Morning was 'sending the wrong message' and it should be a representation of 'what is going on today' rather than a recording.

Long-serving host Eamonn had a message for them as well, hitting back: "We're trying our best to give the right message but it's just to cheer people up."

Ruth then responded to more accusations that she and Eamonn weren't social distancing themselves, saying: "We are married; we live together and we sleep in the same bed."
