This Morning's Eamonn and Ruth delight fans as they replace Phillip and Holly

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford's return to This Morning has delighted viewers who have declared that the 'best hosts' are back at the helm of the ITV show.

There was fury amongst dedicated viewers of the daytime programme at the end of last year when it was confirmed that the they had lost their regular Friday slot to Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary.

This Morning bosses said at the time that Eamonn and Ruth would be used for holiday cover and, after fans hit out at them being absent when usual presenting duo Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield took a break during May half term, the husband and wife partnership have begun a six week stint as hosts.

And their return to This Morning, which saw them reflect on England's Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy, has been welcomed by fans on social media.

One fan tweeted: "so good to see them back on This Morning. Really missed them. I don't watch anymore unless they're presenting," and, equally enthused, a second posted: "how great to have Ruth and Eamonn back ! I shall be watching again, well while they're on."

Another fan commented: "So glad to have quality presenters back in the form of the fantastic Eamonn and Ruth!"

Others pushed for Eamonn and Ruth to be given back their Friday slot, with one viewer reacting: "Bring back Eamonn and Ruth permanently and dump O'Leary and Hammond.

"Eamonn and Ruth have amazing chemistry but there is no chemistry between O'Leary and Hammond."

Eamonn and Ruth's first show back on This Morning was interrupted as it cut live to England's hotel for a live press conference from Gareth Southgate as the Three Lions' manager reacted to their penalty defeat.
