This Morning's Dr Chris explains best ways to combat hay fever

Hayfever sufferers have been hit by "thunder fever" recently due to unusual weather conditions.

It comes after "super pollen" combined with the tail end of a tropical storm causing pollen counts to rise to 'very high' levels across the UK. High humidity will split grains into tiny, highly potent particles, while storms will wash them to nose-level.

Some sufferers may be struggling to cope with the symptoms of hay fever, which often include irritated eyes and a runny nose. Dr Chris was on This Morning today talking to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby about how best to combat it.

He said that face masks are one of the best ways to go. He said: "A facemask is an ideal barrier to pollen grains going into your nose and your mouth.

"Wearing shades will keep the pollen out of your eyes and at night close your bedroom windows. Cover your bed with a cloth during the day and take it off at night so there's no pollen on it." He went on to also advise that hay fever sufferers should change their clothes as soon as they get home to try and get rid of excess pollen particles.
