This Morning's Dermot O'Leary stuns Dancing on Ice star with 'awkward' Rebekah Vardy injury joke

Dermot O'Leary stunned a Dancing on Ice pro into silence with a rather awkward joke about Rebekah Vardy on Friday's This Morning.

Dermot took the reins on the ITV daytime show for the second week in a row alongside new presenting partner in crime Alison Hammind and a section of the programme was dedicated to the new series of Dancing On Ice, which starts on Sunday evening.

After pro skater Matt Evers gave the hosts and viewers at home a tour of the set - which included a judge's panel with dividing perspex screens in a big change for this year, Dermot and Alison interviewed comedian Rufus Hound and his professional partner Robin Johnstone as they geared up to make their debut on the Dancing on Ice rink.

Rufus and Robin weren't due to appear until week 2, but were promptly moved to week 1 to replace Graham Bell and his skating partner Yebin Mok after she suffered a horror injury in training.

And Robin's other half Andy Buchanan also suffered an injury in rehearsals after Rebekah, who he's coupled with, after her blade sliced his face during a move and he had to go to hospital.

Robin hasn't seen Andy in the flesh to catch sight of the injury, due to the fact they're in different bubbles, but had seen it on video calls.

Vardy has revealed she injured her professional partner so badly during Dancing On Ice rehearsals that he had to go to hospital (PA)

And it was then that Dermot quipped: "Did he just point at his face and say...it's Rebekah Vardy?!" in relation to that now famous tweet that WAG rival Coleen Rooney shared in 2019 alleging that Rebekah had been leaking stories about her to the press.

The scandal is now the subject of a court case and, reacting to Dermot joke's , Robin looked down and replied: "Actually...oh my god...he's up north training, so I actually just saw it over Zoom, 'cos we're social distancing; we're in our bubbles....but....yeah, he's ok."

Speaking about the unfortunate injury after it happened, Rebekah, who is married to Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy, described it as a "horrific experience."

Rebekah is joined on the Dancing on Ice lineup by the likes of Denise Van Outen, Jason Donovan and Myleene Klass.
