Alison referenced an earlier segment with a psychic who told her she was going to get a dog this year and added: "The last time I saw you, you were out and about with your dog.

"I've just been told I'm going to get a four legged friend, do you still have your dog?"

But Graham said: "No. dead."

Mortified, Alison said: "I'm so sorry, I'm absolutely devastated."

Co-host Dermot erupted into laughter while Graham laughed too and said he had been "mean" with his response.

Alison apologised profusely and said: "That's the worst thing to say, I'm so sorry."

Alison and Dermot presented the show today after being confirmed as Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford's replacements last year.

*This Morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10am
