This Morning: Rob Beckett takes aim at Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield with BAFTAs joke

Rob Beckett appeared to take a swipe at Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield at the BAFTA TV Awards last night (May 14). The comedian delivered an opening monologue to the galaxy of showbiz stars sat before him as he co-hosted the huge event alongside fellow funnyman Romesh Ranganathan.

As the biggest night in British television got underway at London's Royal Festival Hall, Beckett addressed some of the stars in attendance. "Imelda Staunton is here," he said. "It's exciting, isn't it?"

"Apparently, Phil and Holly got to watch that a couple of days before everybody else."

Beckett's savage remark appeared to be skewered at the This Morning hosts following the "Queuegate" backlash of last September, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. As members of the public queued for a maximum of 24 hours, Schofield and Willoughby were accused of using their fame to jump the day-long line as they filmed a segment for ITV.

Those in the crowd last night winced at the comment, which Ranganathan then followed up by saying "Little bit of edge for you there early doors, guys."

Members of the British public were left infuriated by the alleged "queue jumping", sparking calls to have Schofield and Willoughby removed from This Morning (Sky News)

Schofield and Willoughby dominated the showbiz headlines last week as further rumours of an alleged feud between the pair of presenters continued, with Schofield himself issuing a statement, shutting down such speculation. It had been reported that they had had a "falling out" which was so bad that they now "barely speak" off camera.

In a statement published on Thursday, May 11, 60-year-old This Morning long-timer Schofield asserted that Willoughby was his "rock" and that the pair were still "the best of friends" following a difficult time for them both. In April, Schofield took pre-planned time away from the sofa as his brother, Timothy, was found guilty of sexually abusing a teenage boy over a period of three years, whilst he was working for Avon and Somerset Police.

Timothy was convicted of 11 sexual offences involving a child between October 2016 and October 2019, including two of sexual activity with a child, following a trial at Exeter Crown Court. His famous brother welcomed the guilty verdicts, saying: "As far as I am concerned, I no longer have a brother."

Meanwhile, Willoughby was also absent from the show last month as she suffered from shingles. Whilst she was struck down by the painful condition, former Saturdays singer Rochelle Humes stood in for her alongside Schofield as he returned from his time away from the show.
