This Morning on-screen psychologist denies claims she’s been axed over anti-lockdown tweets

The regular on-screen psychologist for This Morning has rebuffed claims that she has been fired after posting a series of anti-lockdown tweets.

Reports recently emerged that psychologist Emma Kenny – who has featured heavily on the ITV programme over the past year – was fired after she shared a tweet vowing to ignore Covid-19  lockdown restrictions.

Kenny has since addressed the rumours, stating that she has “just signed a new contract with This Morning”.

“Well I’ve made the papers for no reason, but just to make it clear I’ve just signed a new contract with This Morning and count the staff and many presenters as friends,” wrote Kenny.

She went on to thank her followers “for the messages of support”.

The Manchester-based broadcaster has attracted criticism for sharing tweets railing against the government’s lockdown restrictions.

“I don’t want anyone to die, but the studies that are out state that lockdown are doing more harm than good,” wrote Kenny. “If you want to protect the NHS you will go down the path that does the most good. This would involve listening to the research. Why are we not listening?”

In November last year, Kenny announced that she intended to “decline” the national tier-based lockdown.

In a now-deleted tweet, Kenny wrote: “Just to check in with you @BorisJohnson and @MattHancock just to politely inform you that I’m declining your tiers because you have no evidence to base them on!

“The law of the land must be based on the interests of the population. I’m taking back my kids’ future.”
