This Morning mum reveals she fines her children if they don't keep their bedrooms tidy

A mum appeared on This Morning on Thursday and revealed the rather controversial way she makes sure her children keep their bedrooms clean.

Mum-of-three Katrina was in the studio to chat to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford about the extreme measures she's taken with her children to keep their rooms tidy after reaching the "end of her tether."

She told the ITV presenting duo that she decided to draw up a cleaning contract for each of her children and make them sign it. If they don't adhere to the rules on the contract they are fined £5.

A rather shocked Ruth said she thought it was "an interesting idea" to which Katrina replied: "It has worked - it might sound extreme but it just proves that they can look after themselves."

Some of the rules on her daughter Olivia's list included 'No makeup in the bedroom, no eating in the bedroom, no juice or fizzy drinks in bedroom - only water, dirty washing must go in wash-basket, make bed everyday, always put shoes or trainers away."

Olivia revealed she had been fined for leaving a sweet wrapper on her pillow, while teenage son Josh admitted to being fined twice for leaving clothes out.

Katrina's contracts sparked quite a reaction on Twitter, especially amongst fellow parents.

One reacted: "My 3 children aged 14, 11 and 6 have a cleaning rota, i don’t understand why it’s such a big deal I thought it was the norm to raise your kids with pride and respect?" and, in agreement another tweeted: "I think it's brilliant, teaches them responsibility to look after themselves etc.

"Also when they go to university they will know what to do. So many slobs at my uni as their parents did everything put them in an independent situation and they don't have a clue."

However, others weren't fans of Katrina's method, with one viewer blasting: "No! They should pull their weight for sure but why have children if contracts are involved?! What happened to unconditional love!!!" and another tweeted: "Seems a bit ridiculous..."
