This Morning issues statement about Phillip Schofield's replacement as fans obsess over Josie Gibson

This Morning has issued a statement about Phillip Schofield's replacement as fans obsess over Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle. All eyes were on Holly Willoughby on Monday (June 5) as she returned to the This Morning sofa after a few weeks away.

Holly, 42, had taken a break following Phil's dramatic departure from This Morning, following which he admitted to engaging in an "unwise but not illegal" affair with a younger ITV colleague. After her former co-star's confession, Holly issued a statement on Instagram, in which she claimed that he denied the relationship to her when reports first began circulating.

As she returned to the ITV Studios on Monday morning, Holly was comforted by bubbly Bristolian Josie as she read out a statement regarding the last few weeks. Holly shared that she felt "shaken, troubled, let down and worried for the wellbeing of people on all sides" as she took aim at Phil for "not telling the truth".

Holly was supported by Josie on Monday and Tuesday before Craig Doyle stood in on Wednesday and Thursday. Both relief presenters have received a huge amount of praise from viewers on social media, leaving them wondering whether one of them will take over from Phil permanently.

Trish Read wrote on Twitter: "#ThisMorning #Craig and #Josie are both excellent on this show. Knock a certain other ex presenter out of the park. Not arrogant, controlling or rude...just nice."

Viewers have enjoyed the "chemistry" between Holly and Craig (ITV)

"Just make Craig Doyle a permanent presenter," Paul tweeted. "He is a massive hug to every subject. He covers everything perfectly, either with sensitivity or humour."

Stephanie said: "There’s such a warmth and calmness about Craig Doyle, Holly seems more relaxed with him too. Would not complain if he were to be permanent."

"I actually quite like Holly and Josie presenting together! #ThisMorning" wrote Jess. Carole commented: "Love Josie Gibson! She's the best of them all."

Although ITV is yet to confirm who will be permanently joining Holly on the sofa from Monday to Thursday, the broadcaster has released a statement that suggests they have nearly reached a decision. A spokesperson for ITV said it would make announcements on future This Morning presenters "in due course".

"In the meantime, we will draw on the This Morning family for presenters to co-present with Holly," they added in a statement to The Journal.
