This Morning in chaos as emergency forces show off air

This Morning’s interview with Spice Girl Mel B was cut short on Friday as the fire alarm started to ring during the live interview in the ITV studio.

The ITV co-hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary were interviewing the 47-year-old when the alarm started to ring, leaving the trio unsure whether they were meant to leave.

Alison told ITV viewers: “We’re having an alarm,” as Mel replied: “That’s the end of that.”

Shouting over the whirring alarm, Alison added: “That’s live TV. Does that mean we have to leave?”

Standing up, Mel said: “It does! There’s a fire alarm! Come on!” She then continued to promote her BBC travelogue show with Ruby Wax and Emily Attack as she added: “It’s on Monday.”

Mel then sat in between Alison and Dermot as she tried to read the autocue behind the camera, saying: “After the break…” She then interrupted herself saying: “What does that say? I’m dyslexic, so bare with me. I’ve jinxed it.”

After the break, Mal, Dermot and Alison returned and the fire alarm had been switched off, allowing Scary Spice to share further details of her three-part docuseries Trailblazers: A Rocky Mountain Road Trip.

Airing on BBC Two from Monday, the show sees Mel B, Emily Atack and Ruby Wax embark on an adventure to pay homage to Isabella Bird, whose exploits have largely been lost to history.

This Morning returned to ITV1 after days off air to make way for the broadcaster’s coverage of the World Cup in Qatar.

This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield announced they were taking a week-long break from hosting the ITV show from Monday morning during the FIFA World Cup.

During the school holidays, Holly and Phillip always take a planned break from presenting and are usually replaced by guest presenters on the show. However, in this instance the break was owing to a schedule shake-up.

At the end of Monday’s programme before the pair crossed over to Loose Women’s lunchtime spot, Phillip told ITV viewers: “The World Cup is on ITV for the next few mornings. Alison and Dermot will be with you on Friday. We will see you next week.”

Holly and Phil then waved Welsh and English flags as Holly added: “All that's left for us to say is good luck England, good luck Wales.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1 and ITX.
