This Morning hit with Ofcom complaints over 'loophole' travel advice

This Morning is no stranger to a lot of comments about what goes on during its shows.

But the ITV programme has been hit with more Ofcom complaints after viewers were left unhappy with some of its guests and segments.

The broadcasting watchdog confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that nearly 100 complaints were made over 'loopholes' and fitness guru who called 'fat people lazy'.

The 'loopholes' complaints refer to travel expert Simon Calder who appeared on the daytime favourite last week to discuss the latest on the Spanish quarantine restrictions.

Appearing alongside hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on July 27, Simon told a guest who was in Barcelona that "the only way to reduce two weeks of quarantine you have to serve when returning here [the UK] is to, believe it or not, leave the country again. To go to France, to Italy, or to anywhere else you like."

Many viewers expressed their anger at the suggestion of 'getting out' of the 14 day quarantine and slammed him for his 'irresponsible' advice.

The next set of complaints were from the previous week when Eamonn and Ruth interviewed a fitness writer who claimed 'fat people are lazy'.

Samantha Yardley declared that she would never work with overweight people and admitted on the ITV  show that she would choose to employ a thinner person over a fat person for a job.

Ruth pointed out that not everyone can help it if they are bigger, such as those who are on medication, while Eamonn branded Samantha "cruel".

And viewers were equally unimpressed.

Ofcom did not say if they were investigating the complaints.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
