This Morning guests clash as they discuss Nottingham's Christmas Market

Nottingham's controversial Christmas market made it onto ITV's This Morning - with guests arguing whether face masks should be worn outside.

The award-wining TV show, presented by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, showed scenes from Saturday where crowds descended on Old Market Square.

Open for just one day, the market is now being packed away.

Debating the market and also crowds that had gathered outside Harrods in London, Talk Radio breakfast show presenter Julia Hartley-Brewer said it was "predictable" that Christmas shoppers would be out in droves.

"If you lockdown shops four Christmas weekends in a row, don't be surprised for the final three weekends before Christmas everybody who would have shopped over those seven weeks is out and about. This was entirely predictable.

"Regent Street and Nottingham market, it seems to me it's the angle photographs were taken at and a lot of the time a lot of these people are actually perfectly well social distanced. People are a couple of metres apart, they're in the open air, they're briefly walking past each other, it's really not a serious risk."

She clashed with TV presenter Matthew Wright, rubbishing his claim that face masks should have been worn outside.

"If you can't do two metres, if it's a metre-and-a-half, it is supposed to be with mitigating circumstances like a face covering," he said.
