This Morning guest Andrew Neil in tears as he is 'unlikely to return' to show

Andrew Neil broke down in tears on This Morning today as he spoke to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

Andrew, 72, appeared on the show to discuss the latest headlines in today's paper.

Royal editor Camilla Tominey also joined the panel via video link from her office.

The panel discussed several topics such as an Oxford College removing a portrait of the Queen from the common room and a delay to lockdown restrictions.

But as the segment came to an end Andrew broke down and thanked Holly and Phil for being "so kind" to him.

Andrew said: "Listen I wanted to come in today and thank you for being so kind and wonderful."

Phil and Holly thanked him and Phil said: "Oh Andrew, that's a lovely thing to say and good luck on Sunday."

Holly also appeared emotional and said: "Oh you are soft sometimes, you really are."

Andrew is unlikely to appear on This Morning again as he launches his new channel GB news on Sunday June 13.

And viewers were quick to comment on Andrew's emotional appearance.

Diana Parker said: "I hope Andrew is ok he seemed really emotional big hugs for Andrew."

Julie said: "That was truly heartfelt from Andrew, I think it even took him by surprise."

Ani said: "Ah @thismorning what a lovely gentleman @afneil is. Moved me to tears this morning! Talking lots of sense as always. Looking forward to @GBNEWS launching on Sunday and wish Andrew lots of luck with it."

Ryan said: "Andrew Neil crying. I didn't expect that."

And Ashley said: "Awwwwww Andrew getting emotional."

*This Morning continues at 10am on ITV tomorrow
