This Morning flooded with complaints over controversial interview with deaf Strictly winner Rose Ayling-Ellis

Producers and hosts of This Morning are under fire for their controversial handling of an interview with recent Strictly winner and EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis.

The dancing champion joined hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on Tuesday (11 January), alongside her professional partner Giovanni Pernice, to discuss the upcoming Strictly tour she will be accompanied by an interpreter as she is deaf.

However, fans of the morning magazine show have since blasted the interview, pointing out that during the chat, the framing of the camera would cut out Rose's use of sign language, making it difficult for other viewers with hearing impairments to understand what was being said.

The 27-year-old's interpreter was also placed off screen for the majority of the clip.

One This Morning viewer, @Bahamut_paladin took to Twitter to write: "Can we normalise having the camera not cutting out when guests use sign language? Many people are watching her sign as their preferred way of communication."

Another added: "I think it would help if the This Morning camera crew would show Rose’s hands when she’s talking, rather than panning into her face."

@Dc7073Bloss tweeted: "Why not have subtitles for the hard of hearing for this interview, or have the interpreter actually visible on screen. This interview is pointless for those who are hard of hearing."

This Morning fans have hit out at the show for excluding viewers that are impaired of hearing for not showing sign language or interpreter (ITV)

Ayling-Ellis, who was crowned the champion of the 2021 series of the BBC hit dance show, told the due of presenters that she wanted to see British Sign Language registered as an official language in England.

"Sign language needs to be more appreciated,” she explained. "It has such a rich history… people don’t realise its such a beautiful language."

One This Morning viewer soon tweeted, "Please show rose’ hands so that deaf people can see what she is saying!", whilst another added, "Cameraman needs to be showing rose signing!".
