This Morning fans say Shaun Ryder is 'TV gold' as he takes on unexpected phone-in

This Morning viewers were left perplexed after Shaun Ryder turned up for an unexpected phone-in.

The Happy Mondays singer was on the ITV show to chat to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about his experience with aliens.

Shaun told the hosts that he was just 15 when he first saw a UFO during his time as a delivery boy.

"We saw this thing zigzagging about," he explained before adding that it was "long before my encounters with hallucinogenics".

But when his sighting became more regular, he was concerned as to whether it was "all in my nut".

He added: "When I started seeing other things, I nearly went to get things checked out because when you start hallucinating on things you could be losing your eyesight."

Shaun also recalled a sighting after he filmed a documentary on UFO's - and thought the production company was playing tricks on him.

"I looked out in my back garden and over my apple tree was this big plastic air fix looking wobbly thing that looked like it was hanging in the air on strings because it was moving.

"I'm slapping myself stupid."

But after sitting open-mouthed, Phillip appeared sceptical about Shaun's claims, saying at one point: "The way you describe it sounds like the Del Boy of aliens, some ramshackle air fix thing around a tree."

Later on the show, Shaun hosted This Morning’s phone in where viewers shared their alien and UFO stories.

And This Morning fans think it was "TV gold".

“God I love Shaun Ryder so much. What a legend. #thismorning," tweeted one.

Another said: "Thanks for unleashing Shaun on us. Please get him to discuss the issues of the day #ThisMorning."

"This is TV gold. A phone in about UFO’s and Aliens with Shaun Ryder couldn’t make this up. #thismorning," a third shared.

A fourth added: "Shaun Ryder is the guest expert we never knew we needed #thismorning."

"A phone in about alien sightings with Shaun Ryder is peak tv @thismorning #thismorning," another tweeted.
