This Morning fans gobsmacked as doctor admits she took diet pills to lose weight

Viewers tuning into This Morning on Wednesday were shocked when a guest GP admitted that she once took diet pills.

Doctor Nighat Arif joined Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield in the studio to discuss natural weightless supplements and whether or not they actually work.

Speaking about various diet pills and controversial options that many people have turned to, Dr Arif spoke about her own personal experience.

"I’m Pakistani, I come from a culture where the arranged marriages are still a huge thing. So growing up I had this idea you’ve got to be tall, slim and well-educated," she explained.

"And so growing up I felt like I always had to be a certain body shape. So I did feed into that and my mind would feed into the fact that I have to be a certain size.

"So I bought diet pills and herbal supplements from online and herbal shops, even though I’m not even overweight!" Dr Arif continued.

Holly then asked her to clarify that when she took the pills, they didn't work.

Dr Arif replied: "It's really important to say that taking diet pills do not work. I know it might upset a lot of people that I'm saying this, but there is no such thing as food that allows you to fat burn. There is just no such thing.

"It's a myth and we've got to bust those myths. I'm not looking for sympathy or empathy that I've taken diet pills, but it's a bigger problem, it's a bigger wider problem."

And a fourth added: "Dr Nighat is right diet pills are a waste of money and do not work #ThisMorning."

However, one viewer wasn't impressed with the segment and fumed: "Errrr NO! There was an item on #thismorning just a couple of days ago saying that green tea did f**k all to aid weight loss! Am I wrong?"
