This Morning fans complain about 'virtue signalling' montage on a year in lockdown

This Morning fell silence at lunchtime today as the nation took part in a minutes silence on a National Day of Reflection.

Today marks one year since Boris Johnson announced that the UK was being plunged into a national lockdown.

A minute's silence was held for moment of remembrance to honour the more than 100,000 people who have lost their lives to the disease.

As midday arrived, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield joined the moment of silence.

However, fans were left unimpressed when they returned with a montage of This Morning's year on TV.

The segment, which last a few minutes, took viewers back to just over two weeks before the national lockdown was announced when the Prime Minister appeared on the show to ask people to 'wash their hands more'.

It then showed March 23, when the ITV presenters found themselves still on air but having to social distance.

The montage then took viewers through various moments throughout the year - from emotional interviews to cookery slip-ups and even a bit of dancing.

"We're optimistic that there is light at the end of the tunnel and better times are ahead," Phillip said when cameras returned to the studio.

"But whatever happens, we'll still be here each day for you."

"Yeah we will," Holly added.

But not all viewers were impressed and took to social media to complain.

"Oh Yay let's put another montage Together just what we all need to cheer us up #ThisMorning," tweeted one.

Another fumed: "Oh a nice bit of virtue signalling. Ain't you a hero Phillip? #ThisMorning."

"#ThisMorning acting like they did something," a third added.

A fourth said: "Oh for Christ sakes of course they've put together a f*****g montage #thismorning."

"If they really needed to do a montage it should have been focused on key workers and NHS staff members, they're the true hero's #thismorning," another tweeted.

However, others praised the presenting duo.

"@Schofe and @hollywills you two truly are amazing #1yearoflockdown #ThisMorning," tweeted one.

Another said: "Watching the segment of #OneYearOn from #COVID19 and I’m feeling incredibly emotional looking back and hoping this nightmare ends soon. Thank you #ThisMorning and thinking of every single person who has been impacted! @Schofe @hollywills."

"Watching the segment of #OneYearOn from #COVID19 and it’s not finished it’s incredibly emotional but also shows what an incredible show @thismorning is! It’s been part of our homes for years and for many more to come! Thank you #ThisMorning @Schofe @hollywills," a third added.
