This Morning expert reveals whether ketchup should go in the fridge and where other foods belong

It's a culinary quandary that has divided opinion for years but a food expert has finally revealed whether we should be keeping tomato ketchup in or out of the fridge.

This Morning dedicated a whole segment of Monday's show to where food should be stored, with the piece, hosted by Alice Beer ending with the biggest dilemma - what to do with ketchup.

Some people are adamant that ketchup should NEVER go in the fridge, preferring to leave it in a kitchen cupboard, while others put it straight in the fridge after getting in from the supermarket.

And Alice conclusively revealed to hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby that research from experts say that ketchup should stay out of the fridge while sealed but be kept in the fridge as soon as it is opened.

Viewers' reacted with differing opinions on the matter. One tweeted: "ketchup is fine in the cupboard but will taste better if you keep it in the fridge once opened," and another exclaimed: "Ketchup in the fridge!?"

Another opinion-dividing subject is what to do with chocolate, with Alice adding that should be kept in 'a dark place'.

Other surprising tips include that bread bins are actually the worst place to keep loaves of bread, with them stored best in cloth bags and that while eggs should be kept in the fridge to prevent them from developing salmonella, they should be kept on the middle shelf rather than in the door.

Alice also revealed that cucumbers are best kept at room temperature to prevent 'cold injury' which will lead to decay and butter can be left out of the fridge if it is consumed within two weeks.
