This Morning: Eamonn Holmes dismisses Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Oprah interview as ‘an advert’

Eamonn Holmes has described Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s forthcoming appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show as an “advert”.

The presenter made the comments while hosting This Morning on ITV alongside Ruth Langsford.

Speaking to the show’s royal correspondent Camilla Tominey and Nick Ferrari about the widely publicised Oprah episode, Holmes said: “ Well, it’s not an interview really, is it? It’s an ad, really.

“I mean, Oprah’s a mate, Oprah was at her wedding. Meghan’s mum stayed with Oprah at her home as a house guest. So it’s not an interview as such, Camilla?”

Tominey said that Winfrey is unlikely to “throw really difficult questions” at the royal couple, and claimed that the interview would be “hugely sympathetic”.

“Though interestingly, it’s been pointed out that they’d only met once before Oprah turned up at the royal wedding in Windsor castle in May 2018,” she added.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s forthcoming appearance on the US TV show follows after they recently revealed that they are expecting a second child.

In 2020, the couple announced that they were stepping down as senior members of the royal family and moved to southern California.

Singer-songwriter Lily Allen commended the pair yesterday (15 February) for their decision to leave, writing on Twitter: “The British media/establishment is so angry with Meghan for showing the world how irrelevant and unnecessary they are.

“They will stop at nothing to try and destroy her. I’m so happy for them that they escaped.”

Holmes and Langsford are currently hosting This Morning during the half term break while regular weekday presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby are away. \

They were replaced in their regular Friday timeslot at the end of last year, with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary taking their place.

Viewers reacted positively to Holmes and Langsford’s return, with many commenting that they had been “much missed”.
